Don’t miss this clue if you have endo and are struggling to have a baby.

Endometriosis has become famous over the last few years.

Celebrities are opening up about their journey.
Documentaries have been made.
The government is allocating funding for pelvic pain clinics.... Yet women are still being let down time and time again by their care providers.

Maybe you are one of them.

Painful periods, exhaustion, IBS, bloating and painful sex are hard enough to deal with.
Add in the emotional blow of struggling to have a baby. Its a huge burden to shoulder.

The problem is often big stories are being dismissed.
Leading to feeling gas lit.
And let down by the very people who are supposed to be the primary support.
If you are suffering from endo and you want a baby, you need more support than a referral to a gynaecologist.

IVF is not the only answer.

The truth is there's a link between endo and infertility.
But it isn't a hard and fast rule.
About 50% of women who have endo will have trouble conceiving.
The disease itself is one part of the story.

A laparoscopy will improve your chances of fertility.
Unfortunately it does not always improve pain.
Leading to a spiral of disappointment on the first period post surgery.
Back to agony and life going on hold.

We need better support.

Endo is a whole body inflammatory disease.
We need to be looking holistically at treating the condition.
Surgery is often a vital step but there are many others that will help you get better results.

I’m going to share one step that I see in clinic all the time.
It will help you fill in a gap on your endo and fertility story.
Something your doctor won’t have discussed and you probably haven’t seen on instagram.
I hope it saves you years of heartache and pain.

Check your oestrogen again.

Endometriosis is an oestrogen driven disease. Which means suffers often have high levels of oestrogen.

When oestrogen gets too high it can:

  • Infertility
  • Weight gain
  • Mood swings
  • Decrease your libido
  • Make your periods heavier
  • Affect your menstrual cycles

Don’t worry. You don’t have to live with it forever. There are ways to fix it!

High oestrogen isn’t recognised as a condition by western medicine. But in the natural world, there’s some great options when it comes to oestrogen clearing.

Let me tell you about my patient L.

L and her husband came to see me after multiple failed IVF cycles. They had been trying for 8 years and were exhausted and frustrated. They were getting good numbers of embryos, but not one of them would stick. L has endometriosis and was told this is the reason why she was struggling to conceive.

Although L had been seeing a natural health practitioner weekly for over a year, there was vital clue that was missed.
And it was having a huge impact on her IVF success.

L had a slightly elevated day 2 oestrogen result.
Nothing alarming.
But her oestrogen was never checked during her luteal phase.
That’s where progesterone is checked to confirm ovulation.
What was soon revealed was L had excessively high mid luteal oestrogen levels.
An ideal mid-luteal oestrogen should sit between 300-500 pmol/L.
She had levels over 1000!

I explained to her that high oestrogen levels were interfering with the communication between progesterone and her uterine lining.
Affecting how her embryos were implanting, despite all the progesterone pessaries she was prescribed.
So I made her a proposition.

A 2-3 month plan to clear oestrogen.

L was adamant she wanted to go for an frozen embryo transfer in 4 weeks.
It wasn’t an ideal situation.
But after 8 years of devastation, I completely understood why she didn’t want to wait.
We made a plan.

It looked like this:

  • Weekly acupuncture.
  • Specific supplements to clear oestrogen.
  • 2 tablespoons of flaxseed added to meals.
  • A diet high in fibre with a diversity of vegetables and anti-inflammatory foods.
(A big key to oestrogen clearance is making sure you poo regularly. Fibre is essential!)

For the first time in 8 years, that dreaded phone call from the IVF clinic turned positive.

8 months later L and her husband welcomed a baby girl.

For L understanding the missing part of her endo story made all the difference in her fertility journey.
